Currents can be quite strong here, but huge mantas and sunfish (Mola Mola) are frequent visitors. Nusa Penida & Nusa Lembongan are excellent dive sides due to their unharmed environment. The reef characteristics are the same for both islands with the exception that Penida's reef drops steeper than the Lembongan reef. We stay again at Nusa Lembongan for this night. |

LOMBOK, MOYO, KOMODO
Day 1 |
Pick up at Bali airport and transfer (approx. 2 ½ hours) to Amed. Check in at Hotel Uyah Amed. Relax, meet our dive crew and have a nice dinner in our Café Garam (dinner on individual basis). |
Day 2 |
We check out at Hotel Uyah Amed and go aboard CONDOR Sailing boat. From Amed we sail east (about 5 hrs) towards the GILI Islands north of Lombok. We will have two dives and plenty of time for snorkeling around the three small Gili Islands. There is a pretty good chance to watch turtles and sharks cruising in the area. Dinner and overnight on board at Gili Air. |
Day 3 |
Early morning we travel east for about 8 – 9 hours to the little island Gili Lawang (Bats island) on the north-eastern tip of Lombok. We have time for a dive to see a huge variety of unharmed corral. This spot is excellent for snorkeling as well. While we sit on deck, have a drink and watch the sunset behind the 3726 m tall Mount Rinjani we will see hundreds of bats (flying dogs) flying from Bats island towards Lombok to look for food – a stunning view. Dinner and overnight on board at Gili Lawang. |
Day 4 |
In the early morning we set sails to travel further east towards the national reserve island Moyo. On our way we might quite well be accompanied by dolphins for some time. We reach Moyo after about 8 - 9 hrs and go diving right in front of Labuan Hadji. Two reefs filled with colorful corral and a tremendous amount of fish serve as excellent dive sites. After our dive we will sail north and then east to Satonda island (about 4 hrs). After this long journey we relax, have dinner and stay overnight on board. |
Day 5 |
Satonda Island was most probably created during the eruption of Mount Tambora in 1815. After breakfast we will visit Satonda island. A lake forms the center of this island. It is said that your wish comes true if you hang a stone on one of the trees at this lake – you may try! Now it is time for diving! You may wish to dive the lake – some people say there is a monster – we have not spotted it yet! For those who prefer the blue ocean we propose two interesting dive sites. After all these activities we set sails to travel further east to reach Banta island (north – west of Komodo) after 14 – 16 hrs. We will travel during the night to make this long distance but you can sleep while our crew will bring us to the waters of KOMODO. |
Day 6 |
After breakfast we go diving at our favorite dive site, the GPS point. This bank reef lies about 10 meters under water and is located by using our GPS (Global Positioning System). This mountain under water attracts lots of fish and is one of the best dive sites to see sharks, tuna, jacks and barracuda. Currents can be very strong here! After this exciting dive we turn south towards Sape, a harbor at the eastern end of Sumbawa. On our way we might go for a dive at “Alcyonarian Bay”, a protected bay with soft corals and Banta Bommies. In Sape we have to look for fuel and supplies. If time and weather conditions allow we will sail to Labuan Letuhoh at the west coast of Komodo Island (approx. 4 hrs). We will use this totally uninhabited port (Labuan) to stay for the night. |
Day 7 |
If weather and sea conditions allow (most probably in December and May) we will travel south to visit south Komodo, Rinca, Kode and Motang or we concentrate on the northern Komodo area for our further journey if the ocean is too rough in the south. Anyway we intend to surround the southern tip of Komodo island where we find two excellent dive sites. “The end of the world” a wall of black rock or the easier “Colleen’s Corner”. Both dive sites are south of Tala Island, right at the southern tip of Komodo. From here we either turn north or (if possible) sail east towards Nusa Kode, an island at the southern end of Rinca Island. Before we enter into the straight between Kode and Rinca we will dive at the south – eastern edge of Kode. This is the spot where we hope to see the giant whale shark, the world’s largest fish that can reach up to 6 meters in length. The whale shark is a gentle chap and does not create any danger for divers! We may also see huge groupers and most likely some sharks. After this hopefully exciting dive we sail into the straight and anchor close to a white sandy beach at Rinca Island. Besides Komodo also Rinca Island inhabits the famous Komodo dragons. We will most probably see some of these monitor lizards right at that white sandy beach next to our boat. We relax, have dinner and stay over night on board. |
Day 8 |
In the morning we will go ashore and have a closer look at the dragons - not too close please since these animals are pretty dangerous! After this exciting visit to the last known close relatives of the dinosaurs we sail to Motang Island, close to Flores. Two dive sites with good coral growth and a good chance to see mantas and whale sharks shall be visited on our way around the island. After these dives we head back to our beautiful place at the beach with the Komodo dragons. We might go for another dive if we feel like it. We stay another night at this spectacular spot! |
Day 9 |
It is time to head back and visit some of the dive spots in the northern area. We will travel through the straight between Rinca and Kode and then turn north to dive at “Pillarsteen”. This dive site is located at the most southern end of Padar Island. We dive through a wonderful structure of rocks and canyons. After that we sail through the fierce currents of this area and visit Komodo National Park. There is a guided tour through the forest of Komodo. We will need a lot of luck to see a Komodo dragon on this trip because these shy animals hide in the jungle. Plenty of exotic birds and deer can be seen on this trekking tour. We will see the Komodo dragons that hang around the canteen – not very exciting but OK! We stay over night on board Condor and enjoy the treasures of mother nature. |
Day 10 |
We sail north towards the Sebayur Islands. We may, if conditions allow, dive at Tatawa island. There is a rock called Batu Besar with a dive site that has the very interesting name “Current City”. Currents can be very strong here and can make diving pretty stressful! At Sebayur we will dive a beautiful wall north of Sebayur Kecil. After diving we will go hiking and climb the peak of the tallest hill on the island. As soon as we reach the top of the hill we will have a stunning view over Komodo and its surrounding islands. Don’t forget to bring your camera! We stay over night at Sebayur. |
Day 11 |
This morning we sail north, back to Banta Island where we shall dive our favorite GPS point once again. We may go ashore and look for some big shells on the beach. Dinner and overnight on board. |
Day 12 |
Very early morning the crew will set sails while our guests are still sleeping. We have another long haul trip that will take approx. 20 hrs and will lead us along the northern coast of Sumbawa back to Satonda and Moyo, all the way to Sumbawa Besar. Here we will have to get fuel and supplies. One day without diving but with a good chance to see dolphins and time to relax and read a book. We may catch a fish and enjoy fresh fish grilled on board while we sail into the sunset! |
Day 13 |
After we are equipped with fuel, fresh vegetables and fruit we travel west back to Bats Island where we can enjoy another easy dive and, of course, the bats at sunset. Dinner and overnight on board. |
Day 14 |
In the early morning we set sails to travel back to Amed, Bali where we should arrive in the early evening. We cannot promise but we have seen whales on our way in this area already twice. We check in at Hotel Uyah Amed, have a decent shower and try getting used to the solid ground again. |
Day 15 |
In case you do not intend to climb a mountain or leave on a jet-plane the same day you are most welcome to dive with us at Amed Ghost Bay and have a look at our coral reef project. (Alternative this dive can be made on day 1.) In the afternoon we will provide your transfer to the airport or Ubud / Kuta / Legian / Sanur. |
This dive safari is suitable for experienced divers (minimum PADI Advanced Open Water or equivalent) only! Sail & Dive Safari Package Price: EURO 1495, - p.p. (min 4 persons) with accommodation in Hotel Uyah Amed in double room/bungalow. Non-divers pay only 70% of above prices.
